Situation:
An outlook 2007 connecting to an Exchange 2007 prompts for user credentials multiple times when attempting to connect to "autodiscover.domain.com".
Background:
As you Exchange admins already know, Exchange 2007 uses some new type of WEBServices to publish information to Outlook 2007. (Offline address book, Out of Office,... is working using this Outlook Web Services, based on the autodiscover service - all information on EX2007 Autodiscover is detailed in http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb232838(EXCHG.80).aspx)
Solution:
Off course, first check all your Exchange 2007 server side settings for the WEBServices are correct; (configuring this is a good way of starting to work with Powershell, as there are quiet a lot of configs to be made - above URL should lead you to all steps involved)
After confirming all my Exchange side settings were oke, my Outlook 2007 keeps getting those nasty popups. Entering the credentials several times don't give a solution; closing the popup with ESC leaves a small box in the right corner asking for "user password required". And after a few couple of minutes, the credentials popup comes back.
After a lot of investigation, I had some luck in finding the solution. For some reason, it worked for some users, but not for others. As autodiscover is not "user rights" specific, I knew I didn't had to go into that direction. I even had some more luck, when I found out it was related to my user's Internet Explorer PROXY SETTINGS !!
Indeed, proxy settings !! After entering my full internal/external domain in the bypass proxy settings field in my browser, it started working like a charm !!
In the past 2 weeks investigating this issue, I nowhere can find any indication or solution leading me to this direction. I've already forwarded my question/situation/solution to Microsoft Support Services if they can confirm my solution (Me - Myself, I know it is working, but with MS you never know...). As soon as I receive feedback on this one, I'll post it here of course.
Feel free to leave me a note if you should have the same issue and found the solution here. Always nice to know my posts are helping people to a solution.

Peter
