System State backups of WIndows Server 2008 machines failing with DPM 2007

Good evening,

After the way-too-long post earlier today on Exchange 2007 OWA publishing with ISA 2006, a short post to end the day:

When doing backups of Windows Server 2008 machines (native or Hyper-V-ed) with DPM 2007 (microsoft data protection manager), the system state backup always fails.

To make this work, a 2-way approach is needed:

a) install the DPM 2007 Feature Pack (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949779)

b) make sure the Windows backup Feature Role is installed on the WIndows 2008 server you want to backup
